Sommersturm
Sommersturm (Summer Storm) is a German film about the turmoil of discovering and exploring your sexuality. But this is no normal coming out film, it doesn’t overplay dramatic stereotypes or feature unrealistic sexual experimentation. It covers the real issues surrounding coming to terms with what you want, and the divide it can force between friends.
It confronts the difficult issues of homosexuality with maturity and dignity, rather than comedy or satire.
The lead roles are played excellently by Robert Stadlober and Kostja Ullmann (both very good-looking), the music is perfect and the cinematography is spot on. Even though it’s in German (with subtitles), I found it incredibly easy to follow, with the powerful moments of dramatic pause and awkward silence communicating more emotion than any dialogue could.

I’ve seen this film a couple of times and it is heartrending because of the lust, or love, of the boy for another who is hetero. You can feel the pain for this boy as he has daily contact with him on a campsite for young rowing teams. I’ve been through it myself and it is very painful I have to say. Still a beautiful film, every gay boy or man should try and see this.

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL FILM OF LOVE FELT BY A GAY BOY FOR ANOTHER,BUT IT IS ONLY FELT ONE WAY.THIS FILM PROJECTS THE PAIN ONE FEELS WHEN YOUR FEELING ARE NOT FELT IN THE SAME WAY BY THE OTHER BOY.TRYING TO RELATE YOUR FEELINGS TO ANOTHER LAD WHO TURNS OUT TO BE STRAIGHT CAN HURT IN MORE WAYS THEN YOU CAN COUNT.I KNOW FIRST HAND,BECAUSE I’VE BEEN THERE,AND FELT THE PAIN OH SO MUCH.THIS IS A FILM THAT NO GAY LAD SHOULD MISS.I DON’T KNOW WHO MADE THIS FILM,BUT THEY DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB.I ASSUME THE ARE GAY,BUT IF I’AM WRONG THEY SURE KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE GAY.THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.
